Electrical Thermography at Large Quarry in Ras Al Khaimah

Our client, a top exporter of limestones and other raw materials based in Ras Al Khaimah engaged us to inspect all their LV electrical switchgear to assess the integrity and verify equal loading of all connections. This was done as part of annual scheduled inspection of the electrical switchgear. Integrity testing of all the electrical connections are critical due to location of the site being in the midst of sand, dust and work related debris. The electrical panels are also usually well loaded during its term of operations thus a thermographic inspection is mandatory as part of regular preventive maintenance requirements.

The challenge offcourse was to carry out the inspection in the live panels in the rough condition of the quarry in the summer month on June. Relevant prior experience is required in order to carry out inspections in these conditions especially for panels located outside. Errors pertaining to reflectivity and emmisivity are common in such conditions. Cornerstone’s Level II certified thermographers worked in teams of three to complete the inspection of the LV electrical switchgear within the agreed time frame of 1 week. We were also called into conduct a re-inspection once the identified faults were repaired by the client.

Our experience on similar large scale quarries and our prior experience with the client on other related services the client to appoint us as the thermographic inspector for the challenging project.
